Prime: Like Madonna post-Botox, Prime is eerily familar but not quite recognizable. Updated, but not completely hauled over since its days as Retox Rock Bar and Myst, the new space gets two things right. First, the elevated DJ booth in the center of the dance floor keeps it from slipping into “lounge mode.” Second, the sexy boudoir feel (damask wallpaper and black chain curtains) gives an air of sophistication (this is not another Crobar, thankfully). With capacity for 850, it’s definitely a “prime” spot for group outings. Just be prepared, as is standard on West 28th Street, to drop bank for bottle service for large parties. They’ve reinvented the space, but haven’t reinvented the wheel. This is, for the most part, a standard Chelsea nightclub. |
