MeKong Restaurant
From the black and white tile floors to the pressed tin ceiling, this bar/restaurant is about as authentic as you can get for old West Village charm. (Fo’ reals!) It's cuter and smaller than the prior MeKong location, but the crowd-pleasing Vietnamese menu remains. Come in warm weather when the front wall windows open up onto the sidewalk. It happens to be one of only spots in the nabe that makes it affordable to eat and people watch on a regular basis. Imagine, al fresco dining and drinking in New York without emptying out your savings account. What a concept! Besides, this bar boasts more attractive singles dining alone than any other spot in the hood. Drop in for the house cocktail, a French Colonial Martini, loaded with Stoli Cassis and Lychee juice. You never know who you might reel in with that lychee breath. Heart bubbles!
