This former Rockefeller mansion is drop dead gorgeous on the inside, and destined to become uptown's hot spot for people watching and celebrity sightings. Gray Kunz (celeb chef behind extinct Lespinasse and super-hot Café Gray) manages to breathe new life into the digs of what was once the home to Aquavit. Sashay over to the bar for one of Brian O’Neil’s signature cocktails. The Barrier Reef is loaded with Stoli orange, Campari, fresh watermelon juice, lemon juice, and raspberry syrup (you'll be loaded too). Better yet, peruse the house wine list; it's almost as long as a volume by Proust except you won’t need a Harvard Ph.D. to understand it. If you are having trouble deconstructing the menu, a private wine tasting in the downstairs tasting room features a Derridean-like sommelier who will help you through it. But if you miss a Madonna sighting, well then the whole experience will be for naught...because you’re obviously not coming here for the just the food. |
