Bagatelle: Ready for an alternative to Pastis (been ready for a while now)? Try Bagatelle, the latest addition to the bistros of the Meatpacking District. With an ultra-white interior and lots of candlelight, it's a little more sophisticated and a little smarter than its older counterpart. Thankfully, the clientele is as well. At the bar here, you'll find fewer former football stars still living in the past and a few more wines by the glass. Soft music keeps it romantic, but the open design keeps it sociable. It's a surprisingly good spot for a mid-week drink, but one to avoid on weekends (like the plague) when the fratastic factor of the neighborhood cannot be avoided. |
